City Guide: Where to Eat in Austin, Texas

Austin, the capital of Texas and the city known for “Keeping it Weird” is a place full of live music, outdoor activities, and cultural institutions. Austin provides everything that a 26 year old like myself would want. From high tech to SXSW (South by Southwest) a week-long festival with thousands of bands, Austin has it all. Today I’ll be telling you about a few savory food finds in Austin that you can try the next time you’re in town.

1. Swift’s Attic

Located in the heart of downtown Austin, off of Congress Ave, Swift’s Attic is a posh spot occupying the second floor so you do have to walk up the stairs to get to the restaurant. I was able to be seated on a busy Saturday night luckily, but space is limited so I recommend making a reservation.

Our waiter recommended the dinner of the night which was Barracuda and it was AMAZING! Not only is the food amazing but the desert…. is the bomb. We had a dessert called the Costanza, homemade with fluff, brown butter puffed rice, peanut, and chocolate, and it was one of the best desserts I’ve ever had. No lie. Go here when you’re in Austin!

2. Thai Kun-Rock Rose

This one of a kind restaurant located at the Domain serves up- authentic Thai food conceptualized by Thai Changthong, Paul Qui, and Moto Utsunomiya. I love Pad Thai, so of course, I had to try it here and it did not disappoint. The inside gives off a cool street style vibe, and you can even take a picture on the “love is the answer” wall.  I would recommend this place to anyone who loves Thai food and wants to explore the Domain area.

3. The Oasis on Lake Travis

The Oasis on Lake Travis is definitely all about the experience! What can be better than a nice dinner overlooking a lake?  A dinner overlooking a lake with a beautiful sunset. The trick is to come 30-40 minutes before the sunsets to see the incredible view of Lake Travis and the beautiful hues of the sunset.

The staff removes the umbrellas outside so a clear view is available for all. As far as the food goes I would either recommend eating before you come, due to the long lines to get in or order yourself a salad and margarita once you sit down and you’re set!
